POWER SUPPLY: Denco Grows In Uganda
Recent Western Cape Business News
CAPE TOWN-based technology company Denco Automated, is growing its business in Uganda and has just concluded another deal of R2.5 million with one of its existing customers in that country, Rwenzori Beverage Company, in Kampala.
Rwenzori produces about 950 000 PET and other plastic bottles a day.
In terms of the new contract that Denco Automated signed with the bottle maker in June this year, the technology company will undertake the installation and commissioning of additional transformers and generators as well as the main distribution board equipment for the provision of an additional 2 500kva at Rwenzori. This includes the supply of a new locally built main distribution panel equipped with a fully automatic changeover system, power factor correction and all necessary protection equipment and circuit breakers.
The managing director and founder of Denco Automated, Dennis Farge, says power generation challenges in Uganda far outstrip those experienced in this country.
“It’s far rougher over there, but following our success in 2003 when we provided Rwenzori with an entire electrical supply system as a turnkey project for a new 11 000 sq m factory that consumes 4.4MW of power and uses six generators and 4 transformers (33000 / 400v ), they have now given us another contract.
Back then Denco was responsible for the power provision from the incoming medium voltage (33kV) line right up to the commissioning of each machine in the plant.
“We will now continue to fit more ASCO automatic transfer switches and transient voltage surge suppression equipment as this has proven to be capable of withstanding the rigours of African power,” Farge says.
He believes the success achieved in Uganda is as a result of Denco’s quality approach and the implementation of quality cost effective solutions in all projects in the country.
Farge says a trade exhibition in Kampala that he attended in September was also a sure indicator that interest in electro-technology was likely to open further expansion opportunities for Denco in that country.
Meanwhile, Denco Automated is also active in local sectors such as food and beverage, infrastructure and buildings, (HVAC control and power management), machine design and control (pneumatics, motion control, plastic extrusion) and other automated systems.
“All systems are designed, manufactured and configured at our Brackenfell factory, allowing us to follow strict quality control measures. All the equipment we use in our systems complies with international standards and regulations,” Farge says.
