MANUFACTURING: No Small Feat for Jordan Shoes
Recent Western Cape Business News
While the world is in turmoil about its financial standing and the future looks bleak for growing the economy in the short term, it’s good to hear about how one local manufacturer is enjoying remarkable success. Over the past few months, Jordan & Company – the Cape men’s footwear manufacturer which manufactures the Jordan and Bronx brands - has steadily increased its output from 1 700 to 2 500 pairs of shoes a day. This leap in Jordan’s production represents an impressive increase of 47%.
Jordan MD, Brian Pollock adds that the company is now employing additional staff to cope with increased demand. “And this comes at a time when local industry has had to retrench many workers. I am just so pleased that our order book is full.
“As the Rand weakens against foreign currency, it becomes increasingly more attractive to buy local. Customers can order smaller quantities with quicker turn-around times and, in most cases, enjoy a superior quality item.”
Both Jordan and Mossops Tannery are subsidiaries of the Kap Group, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, which gives its customers a distinct advantage in obtaining fast deliveries of good quality leather.
Jordan has been manufacturing quality men’s footwear since it was established in 1899 by Alfred Jordan. Today, the company focuses on formal and casual shoes and is a supplier to most major retailers in South Africa, with contracts for supplying shoes to both the security and government sectors.
With the shoes that Nelson Mandela wore when he walked to freedom locked securely in the company’s safe, Jordan is confident of its future success.
